Lagaan
Directed by the talented Ashutosh Gowariker featuring Aamir Khan and a host of seasoned actors. Lagaan was India’s Official entry to the Oscars and one of the finest movies of the Indian cinema. The story revolves around the poor Indian farmers and the Britishers during that era and how Brits asked those poor farmers to defeat them in a match of cricket to save themselves from paying Lagaan i.e revenue from the crops for the coming years. The Film will make you laugh, cry, make you anxious, emotional and proud all at different phases after watching it! It is surely a must watch if you haven’t yet.
Ab Tak Chappan
Watch this movie for Nana Patekar. It revolves around the life of an honest police officer (Encounter specialist) and the turmoil he faces for his honesty in this corrupt world. The chemistry between the Underworld Don and Nana Patekar is stunning. You will also come to know about the life of a top police officer, the ugly politics and what goes and happens in the police departments.
Nayak: The Real Hero
Anil Kapoor got a National award for this movie. One of the best movies of Indian Cinema. It also features Paresh Rawal, Om puri amongst others. If this movie won’t make you cry, i don’t think so there are other movies out there which can make you cry. It is about the life of a normal reporter who challenges corrupt Chief Minister and subsequently becomes a Minister for a Day and how he changes the entire nation by a storm cleaning corruption!
Gangajaal
This movie is not for the faint hearted. Way before Anurag Kashyap changed the trend of movies by bringing in violence and abusive words, Prakash Jha did it and started it many years ago. Even Gangs of Wasseypur seems to be a clean movie when you compare it with the iconic Gangajaal. The movie revolves around the corruption and mafia going on in Uttar Pradesh since decades. It has lots of violence, murders, abusing words and events which will shake you. Ajay Devgn plays the Honest DIG officer who dares to take on the mafia of Uttar Pradesh. The movie is very gripping full of intense scenes nowhere near the pictures made now.
Baghban
Watch this movie for Amitabh Bacchan and Hema Malini. This movie will literally make you cry while watching. It revolves around how the modern day sons and daughter in laws treat their old parents & in-laws in the house. How they are least prioritized and not taken care of even though they need so much of love and care. This is a complete family movie packed with lots of emotions and gripping drama.
Three Idiots
Many regard this as the best movie ever of Bollywood. It revolves around three engineering students, the life of an engineer, the pressures, the college life, their love & ambitions. It teaches us to pursue what we like. It has lots of funny moments which will make you laugh like crazy and also some intense moments which will make you cry like crazy! Raju Hirani at its best!
Hera Pheri
Watch this movie for the iconic chemistry and acting of Paresh Rawal, Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty. Three jobless people living together and trying to earn a ransom by kidnapping a rich industrialist’s daughter. The comic timing of all the actors specially these three is awesome. Many moments are outrageously hilarious. Paresh Rawal will make you laugh till you shed tears out of laughing! Surely one of the best comedy movies of the Indian Cinema.
Satya
Filled with great acting, intense roles and based on real underworld. Bhiku Matre has become a cult character in the Indian cinema. Manoj Bajpayee not only got a national award for it but it also revived his Bollywood career. Satya who slowly rises from a good guy to a high profile gangster is stuck between love for his girlfriend and his gangster life. The movie has intense scenes, emotions and violence with brilliant acting from all the actors. Satya is surely one of the cult movies of all time.
A Wednesday
This is a spine chilling movie of a comman man who is frustrated with the terror and harm inflicting his city and loved ones and how he manages to destroy the evil elements i.e the terrorists from the city. This is by far Naseerudin Shah’s most brilliant performance. The acting, the suspence, the thrill, the emotions run high in this movie. A must watch movie for the youth because Naseerudin Sir will just inspire you.
Baby
Neeray Pandey is at his directorial best, this movie also brings him in the league of Raju Hirani and top directors of the world. Its an Espionage action thriller and by far the most impactful and best work of Akshay Kumar in the last 20 years. It has many top seasoned actors like Danny Denzongpa and Anupam Kher amongst others. It revolves around elite counter-intelligence unit who learns of a plot, masterminded by a maniacal madman. With the clock ticking, it’s up to them to track the terrorists’ international tentacles and prevent them from striking at the heart of India. Some scenes are just chilling and masterful and Rasheed Naz as Maulan Hafeez Rahman is just very impactful and perfectly fits in the role.
