Online Dating App Tinder and Bumble are reportedly part of a huge prostitution racket carried out by club and lounge/restobar owners in India. To talk specifically in this article about Tinder, they are intentionally or unintentionally, directly or indirectly part of harbouring and responsible for this huge scam where millions of rupees are lost on everyday basis from the pockets of innocent victims across India.
Whether the murder is done intentionally or unintentionally by mistake, murder is a crime and same goes with Tinder who have directly or indirectly become responsible for lounges, clubs and restobars to facilitate these scams using their platform.

How the scam works:
- Thousands or maybe lakhs of women and girls across India who are part of the online dating scam or prostitution who have made their fake accounts on tinder.
- These accounts are run by these women with fake names and fake photos which are usually attractive and beautiful photos of women to lure men and young boys.
- These fake accounts are not at all verified or filtered by tinder and they are allowing such people to operate efficiently on daily basis.
- Tinder then asks for premium subscription where the customer has to pay a certain amount every month and post subscription they can have access to like and connect with unlimited women on their app.
- So once the customer takes subscription, he starts getting likes (invitation to connect) from multiple women making it an overwhelming situation for a man who is flooded with requests from beautiful profiles of women.
- Then they start chatting where the women invites the guy for a date and asks him if they can have drinks together. Most of the guys would agree for obvious reasons and they plan for a date.
- The women later on tells the guy to meet at a specific place and time. Pretending she is new to the area and then suggests a nearby lounge or a resto/bar. The victim (the guys) will agree to go there for a date.
- Once they enter the lounge or restobar, the women immediately starts ordering expensive drinks and lots of food items. Withing a few mins or many after 25-30 mins, the waiter will pop up and tell you sir, your bill till now has reached 20,000 or 25,000 or some random big amount.
- To the shock of the guy (victim), he can’t believe the bill amount and starts arguing that it’s not fair to raise such a massive bill where the girl has ordered some of the most expensive drinks and food items and many things are added by the restaurant without the consent of the customer (the guy victim)
- Ultimately, the guy (victim) has to pay the bill because the staff at the lounge or restobar might beat him up or take his belongings or threat him with a police complaint using the women card with the help of the girl.
- Hence, the victim has to pay the amount, and then the girl/women will say she needs to go the washroom. When she goes to the washroom, the staff member also goes to the washroom and pays her the commission.
- Later on, the women goes down with the guy from the lounge and the moment the guy goes to the parking lot to collect the vehicle, the girl absconds or disappears in thin air.
- Like this, hundreds of scams are happening everyday on daily basis across Mumbai and India. On an average, around 3400 lounges, clubs and restobars are part of this scam where women hired or contracted by these clubs/lounges are stationed around these bars 24/7 and they do such dates 6-7 times a day with different men.
- The total value of this scam across India is at the tune of around 590 crores where already over 1,32,000 men have fallen trap to it in the last 3 years. It’s because of platforms like Tinder who have done zero surveillance on their platform that thousands of scammers are making their accounts daily and fooling innocent people. Tinder has done zero security checks, zero surveillance and they have not filtered or went deep into checking identity of users registering on their platform.
It’s because of their sheer negligence which could be intentional or unintentional, they have supported these criminals in harbouring a scam which has reached and crossed INR 590 Crores. To add more to the woes, till now, they have taken zero action or found any solution to stop this menace which is spoiling the lives of thousands of men and boys on daily basis.
A recent case was filed in Mumbai at Malad Police Station on 27th of May, 2025 where a brave victim came up and gathered all proofs to file a police complaint on a lounge and on that woman who scammed him of Rs 17,000/- through tinder dating app. Similar more cases have been registered across Mumbai by different victims and no legal action has been taken over this.
The victim who goes by the name Aditya shared with Bombaynews.in “the whole root cause of the problem is the dating platform tinder which is harbouring this activity. A strong PIL & Consumer court case with all the necessary proof has to be filed against Tinder so that they are made aware about this situation and they should be asked to offer a immediate solution or close their operations in India”
