2021 is definitely going to be better than 2020, the budget laid by Indian Goverment has come out really good, the trains have started resuming its services, vaccines have started to roll out, people are back to their normal life routines and more importantly the world is becoming a better place post this pandemic. Hopefully, 2021 also seems to be a better year in terms of cricket too, India won an epic series vs Australia down under to begin the year with while local cricket has also slowly began to resume in Mumbai on various different grounds.
When we talk about cricket in particular, not everyday would you come across a player hitting 6 sixes in an over. To be precise, only 7 players namely Sir Garfield Sobers, Ravi Shastri, Herschelle Gibbs, Yuvraj Singh, Hazratullah Zazai, Ross Whitely and Leo Carter have managed to achieve the feat of hitting 6 sixes in an over in professional cricket.
Even when we talk about grassroot cricket, very few players have managed to hit six sixes in an over in Mumbai. We remember Sagar Mishra doing it years back in Times Shield followed by Shivam Dube smashing 5 back to back sixes in T20 Mumbai but it’s still not that easy to do it at local level either. After a long time, a new player has been added into this elite list of records and it’s none other than all-rounder Deven Dhruva from Mumbai.
Played at Eskay Cricket Ground in Borivali, it was left handed batsman Deven Dhruva from Kusum Warriors team who displayed some batting magic in the ongoing Patan Premier League. Chasing 178 and coming at no.4, Deven Dhruva went all guns blazing smashing bowlers in every corner of the ground. Deven scored an unbeaten innings of 55* in 17 balls while Harsh Shah from MTM Warriors was his victim in the 16th over who got thrashed for 6 massive sixes in an over. It was on the back of his brilliant half century coupled with some good top order knocks, his team won the match by 6 wkts and 3.2 overs to spare. Deven who had also taken 3 wickets with the ball was declared “man of the match’. With this win, Kusum Warriors have won all 6 matches in the tournament so far and certainly look favorites for the title.
Speaking with Bombaynews.in, Deven shared: ““It was great to hit 6 sixes in an over. Really enjoyed it. Chasing over 175 was never going to be easy but the way Karan and Smit batted made it easy for me to go out and express myself. The pitch was a fantastic one to bat on. The ball was coming on to the bat which made it easy for us to score. It was definitely one of my favourite innings. I would especially like to thank the committee of the PPL for organizing such a fantastic tournament and giving us an opportunity to express ourselves.”
